Not long ago websites sole purpose was to provide information to your prospective customers. It is basically one way communication where you are talking and your audience is listening (or at least that’s what we think they are doing anyway).
But in this stain age, it is not enough. The buyers are more savvy than before. They need more information to trust you, to know you, to understand your services. They want to be able to ask you a question when the moment it arises in their mind. That’s why the web 2.0 emerged as it enables you publish information to the world wide audience and get your visitors to interact by means of comments, emails, tweets, etc.
Lets’ say you have blog on your website that provides useful information about your products or services to the interested visitors. If you write your blog posts that systematically clears up the objections of your prospects then there is good chance that they will interested in buying. A blog that encourages visitors to leave a comment which can uncover many hidden problems or wants. You can utilize this valuable feedback to create your marketing messages as solutions to those problems.
As long as you are willing to listen, Web 2.0 should open you up for a dialogue. A small business owner should always keep his or her ears on the ground to measure clients’ changing or emerging needs. Your post on the blog, your expert answer to a forum question, your video on YouTube, tweet on the twitter account could easily encourage discussion among your current or prospective customers.
I know it sounds like a lot of effort but remember you can only provide an effective solution if you truly understand the problem. If you don’t then all you are doing is treating symptoms instead of cause.
